Keep your eye on the ball
Submitted by jack on November 10, 2008 - 7:13pm. Bearish | ShrillWe once again interrupt duckies and bunnies to remind you that it's official: you've been swindled in broad daylight!
Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said in September they would comply with congressional demands for transparency in a $700 billion bailout of the banking system. Two months later, as the Fed lends far more than that in separate rescue programs that didn't require approval by Congress, Americans have no idea where their money is going or what securities the banks are pledging in return.
It's bad, you know. read more »

Alameda Shout Out
Submitted by jack on November 5, 2008 - 3:42pm. Alameda | ShrillToday we find Alameda in the national news regarding the controversial gay marriage ban in California. From USA Today:
Dueling rallies often involved shouting and arrests. Election night was no different in Alameda, across from San Francisco.
Tim Tarasov, 25, stood on the corner of Otis Drive and Park Street hoisting a sign approving the ban in the moments before the polls closed Tuesday. Across the street stood those approving same-sex marriage.
"I have two kids and a beautiful wife at home, and I believe in a marriage that's going to create happiness for the family," said Tarasov, of Sacramento. "Only one man and one woman can make that happen, because the Bible said so." read more »

Henry scares it up with the gals
October was a fully loaded month. Henry turned 5 and he enthusiastically celebrated the 31 days of Halloween: he'd dress up after school, go out in the front yard, and either a) practice scaring people as some sort of skeletal hobgoblin; or b) whiz around as Spiderman. Henry -- no doubt -- has developed a Spidey Sense about what's for dinner (that he doesn't like). read more »
Mini Tour with Danny Barnes
Submitted by jack on November 3, 2008 - 10:25am. Music | VideoBarnes came to the Bay Area for a string of shows and I had the pleasure of carting him around to gigs in Larkspur, Santa Cruz, and Petaluma. He opened for The Waybacks at these engagements which was great for us... he'd play, Waybacks would start... he'd sit in for a couple of numbers... then we'd blaze home for early bedtime. Still, it makes me so glad I never chose the touring life. read more »

Get Heart On for $3.99
Submitted by jack on October 29, 2008 - 1:06pm. Music
Don't know if this is intentional or not, but if you have any interest in mojave desert lo-fi glam rock sex-drenched boogiewoogie music, this is a deal you can't pass up!I just found the brand new Eagles of Death Metal album "Heart On" at Amazon Downloads for only $3.99. Is this a mistake? The files are fairly hi-res (variable bit rate ranging 238 > 287 kbps) and more importantly, the music rocks like nobody's business. In a guilty pleasure, rev up your El Camino kind of way. The production here is more varied than prior 2 records (less raw) and even has -- don't want to call it a ballad -- let's just call it a mellow tune.

Upsidedown Signature Sounds
Submitted by jack on October 22, 2008 - 8:45pm. Friends & Family | MusicUnfortunately, I didn't have the energy to make it down to see my pal Matt's (aka Stinkbait, aka by co-conspirator in Holeworld) band open up for the Dandy Warhols at the Warfield on Saturday night, smack in the middle of Hardly Strictly weekend. A near miss. And then Datnoff (another friend from Hood River) passed through town the following week, but another near miss. read more »
